Submission Guidelines

The U-SPACE Workshop welcomes original research and practical experience reports. Submissions should clearly explain the problem, system boundaries, operating context, assumptions, and supporting evidence, while acknowledging limitations and remaining uncertainties.

  • State the research question or operational problem.
  • Describe the operating context, system boundaries, assumptions, and dependencies.
  • Report validation conditions, limitations, failure modes, and uncertainty.
  • Discuss human roles and accountability where systems affect safety or rights.
  • Address relevant security, privacy, ethical, health, and environmental concerns.
  • Explain how the work could inform further research, testing, standards, policy, or operations.

The workshop invites submissions in the following categories:

  1. Regular papers (up to 10 pages, excluding references), presenting original research on theories, techniques, systems, and tools for designing, validating, operating, and evaluating dependable, secure, and resilient systems for urban air mobility, U-space, and related domains.
  2. Practical experience reports (up to 10 pages, excluding references), describing the application of methods, tools, and techniques in real-world or challenging operational settings, including lessons learned, deployment experiences, and implementation challenges.
  3. Industry papers (up to 10 pages, excluding references), addressing industrial use cases, practical applicability, scalability, emerging technological challenges, and the deployment of U-space and urban air mobility systems, with an emphasis on practical insights and industrial relevance.
  4. Short papers (up to 6 pages, including references), presenting preliminary research, position papers, emerging ideas, or descriptions of tools, prototypes, and operational system designs.

All submissions must be written in English and follow the Springer single-column proceedings format on A4 paper, with numbered pages. Templates and further information are available in the Springer instructions for authors and editors.

Review Process

All submissions will undergo peer review by the U-SPACE Workshop Program Committee, comprising experts in the relevant research and application domains. Each submission will receive three independent reviews. Papers will be assessed based on originality, significance, technical correctness, relevance to the workshop, clarity of presentation, and potential impact on research and practice.

The Program Committee will make the final acceptance decisions based on the reviewers' assessments. Authors will be notified of the outcome and may be asked to revise their papers in response to reviewers' comments.

Paper Length and Proceedings

Authors of accepted papers may opt to have their contributions considered for publication in the Springer companion proceedings of EDCC 2027, subject to the applicable publication requirements. Springer generally prefers papers of at least 12 pages in total. Authors submitting regular papers, practical experience reports, or industry papers who wish to pursue this option should therefore aim for at least 10 pages of main content, plus references. Short papers may be less suitable for inclusion in the proceedings because of their 6-page limit, including references.

References are excluded from the page limits for regular papers, practical experience reports, and industry papers. Subject to the applicable proceedings requirements, accepted papers may be allowed one additional page, excluding references, to address reviewers' comments. Submission to the workshop does not guarantee publication in the companion proceedings.

Publication and Presentation

At least one author of each accepted paper must register for the main conference and present the work at the workshop. Remote presentations may be considered in exceptional circumstances, but the presenting author must still register for the conference. Further information is available on the EDCC 2027 registration page.
